Costs, Contract Lengths and Fees

Sainsbury’s Energy offers many different tariffs that are supplied by British Gas, ranging from frozen rates to price promises that are usually fixed until a specific date, like below where your rate will not increase until August 2019.

According to reports, Sainsbury’s used to offer these tariffs at a lower rate than British Gas. However, a law was passed that said that British Gas would have to tell their millions of customers that Sainsbury’s was less expensive, so instead, they decided that Sainsbury’s would have to raise their rates.

Core services & offering

Sainsbury’s Energy offers many services through their partner, British Gas. Although their home insulation services have been suspended, British Gas has a page dedicated to energy saving tips.

Smart Meters

By now you have probably heard about Smart Meters, so what exactly are they?

A smart meter makes your life easier by sending your gas and electricity usage to your supplier automatically, saving you time and so you won’t run into any problems by potentially forgetting.

This means an end to estimated billing, as your supplier will only charge you for the energy that you have used.

You can also benefit by learning when you use the most energy so you can potentially cut down your costs.

Boilers

Thanks to their partnership with British Gas, one of the ‘big six’ energy companies, Sainsbury’s Energy customers can enjoy the benefits of getting a boiler service from their expert engineers.

✔Save up to £215 by installing an A-rated boiler
✔5 year British Gas warranty
✔Fixed price promise
✔Free home visits
✔Payment choices
✔Access to many highly trained engineers
✔A guaranteed quote that is based on your usage

Warm Home Discount Scheme

Applications for 2018/2019 are going to be open in Autumn.

This is a government initiative to help the most vulnerable that are at risk for fuel poverty by giving you a discount of up to £140 between September and March by taking it away from your bills.

Customer Support

When it comes to customer support, Sainsbury’s Energy does, unfortunately, have a very negative reputation online, with an overall Trustpilot score of 1-star and only 8% positive reviews.

Many negative reviews state that they have had inaccurate billing, poor customer support and technical issues, as well as some customers not liking the fact that they have received post and emails from British Gas.

Although not all online reviews are accurate or reliable, it is still essential to take them into consideration when deciding whether to switch energy providers.

Positive Customer Support Reviews

William King on Trustpilot:

Always helpful whenever I have spoken to them. Moved to them about six months ago mad a considerable saving from Eon. Advisor called me back when he said he would and was very simple to swap.

Negative Customer Support Reviews

Greg on Trustpilot:

I noticed they took an extra direct debit from my bank after the final bills had been done. Phoned them to be told they can’t deal with this as they can’t see the details but I should email their customer support instead! Hours wasted on the phone to attempt to get back my money they shouldn’t have taken in the 1st place.

Sainsbury’s Energy Reviews

Positive Sainsbury’s Energy Review

Scott Carter on Trustpilot:

Been with Sainsbury’s energy for five years and I cannot fault them. Although pricier than others the service is good and you can reach them in minutes.

Negative Sainsbury’s Energy Review

Marcie on Trustpilot:

Sainsbury’s energy tripled my direct debit payment with two weeks notice and wouldn’t lower the payments. Do not join them for energy! Bunch of cowboys.

Summary

Sainsbury’s Energy allows customers to benefit from the experience of two of the oldest brands in the UK, one of which is part of the ‘big six’ energy companies. If they could respond to the negative reviews on Trustpilot and fix some of the communication issues, this would benefit them greatly in comparison to smaller independent energy companies.
