Core services & offering

As well as offering green electricity and gas to their customers, Ecotricity also provides their customers with these perks.

Pay as you go

Pay as you go meter gives you much more control over both over your energy usage and lets you pay for your gas and electricity in manageable chunks. There are no exit fees or penalties, so you can be assured that if you decide to switch you won’t have to pay an extra charge.

Energy saver plan

Formerly a Sun Edison product, Ecotricity took it over in 2016 and now take care of many people making their energy at home using solar panels.

They are not taking any new customers for this plan, but they hope to be able to offer a similar offer shortly as soon as the costs make sense.

Feed In Tariff (FIT)

‘Microtricity’ is the Ecotricity’s name for their Feed-In Tariff (FIT).

This is a government scheme that allows customers to have the benefit of generating their electricity and selling it back to the grid by installing their renewable generators such as solar panels.

Ecotricity also offers advice and guides to help you get started.

Customer Support

When it comes to customer support, Ecotricity has mixed reviews online.

Many of the reports say that Ecotricity has excellent customer service which adds to the fantastic ethics of the company, but of course, they do make some mistakes which have to lead to a few negative reviews stating that their standards may have slipped recently.

Positive Customer Support Review

Alex B on Trustpilot:

Ecotricity is a fantastic company to be a part of. Not only are their staff incredibly friendly, informative and helpful (and always down for a little chat at the end of the call), but the company stands for something rarely seen in the business world.

Negative Customer Support Review

Sandra on Trustpilot:

I have been with Ecotricity for a while (8 years) and had good customer service as well I felt I paid a fair price for gas/electric. My bill has doubled compared to last year, and customer service is not good. Not the company that it used to be. Looking to switch right now.

Ecotricity Review

Ecotricity has an average 3-star rating on Trustpilot, with 56% of their 500+ reviews in the positive category while 24% are negative and the rest fall in the middle.

Some of the positive reports say that the switching process was stress-free and straightforward, but on the other hand, some of the negative reviews state that there is not enough internal communication within the company that leads to confusion.

This does not necessarily guarantee that you will receive bad service from Ecotricity, plus not all online reviews are accurate.

Positive Ecotricity Review

David on Trustpilot:

Fantastic service from start to finish. A seamless switch process and the online account makes it simple to give meter reads. A no-brainer for anyone who supports renewables.

Negative Ecotricity Review

Nick Sutton on Trustpilot:

Such a shame to leave a company with a promising ethos a bad review. Terrible experience trying to switch to. Appalling customer service and a seeming lack of communication between their departments have caused numerous problems.
