If you could monitor your vital signs easily and quickly, with a device you’re probably always holding anyway, would it help you to make a difference in your health?
Being able to instantly check your blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and other vital signs, without having to go to a clinic or juggle multiple pieces of equipment, might become an important part of managing our health, especially if those vital signs were accessible with our ever-present smartphones.
The Wello, from Azoi, can monitor lung function, electrocardiography (ECG), heart rate (and variations in heart rate), blood oxygen, blood pressure, body temperature, and more, all in one slim smartphone case. According to Azoi, the case is compatible with the iPhone 5 and 5s, as well as all Android phones running KitKat and equipped with Bluetooth LE. The battery for the sensors lasts about two months on a single charge, and the device can connect with wearable fitness trackers, such as Fitbit.
With the ability to collect and monitor vital signs from multiple users, the whole family can take advantage of a single case, and because the health data is encrypted and stored anonymously on their servers, it’s said to be not only secure, but also ensures that user’s identities are not linked with their data, keeping it private.
The Wello case is still awaiting FDA approval, but the company is currently taking pre-orders for the cases ($199), which will ship once the approval is granted.
