SURGE Accelerator Accepting Applications for Energy Software & IT Startups

SURGE Accelerator is accepting applications for the Spring 2013 class. The program will choose approximately ten startup companies providing an IT or software solution that help solve the world’s energy problems. Participating companies receive an investment, training, and support from key industry players.

SURGE hosts a 12 week bootcamp and training program for entrepreneurs with software or IT solutions for the energy industry to raise capital and expedite commercialization. Companies accepted to SURGE receive cash investment, complimentary services and support, and access to mentorship from industry experts, seasoned energy entrepreneurs, investors, and potential customers.

Companies that apply should fall into one of five focus areas:

  • Smart Grid Applications
  • Energy Trading and Risk Management
  • Digital Oilfield
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Regulatory Compliance

Last Spring, SURGE hosted its first class of ten companies focused on various sectors of the energy industry ranging from the digital oilfield and energy trading software to smart meter monitoring and cloud communication tools for trucking fleets. Since completing the 2012 program, graduates have received financial investments, landed pilot projects with major corporate players, and won recognition at other entrepreneurial conferences.

Kirk Coburn, SURGE Co-Founder, says:

“SURGE supports companies during their earliest and most critical stage by immersing founders into the energy ecosystem unique to Houston. SURGE provides deep domain expertise, relationships with key players, and the resources needed for transformational entrepreneurship within the energy vertical.”

Germana Paterlini, CEO of FuelMiner Inc. and SURGE Class 1 Graduate, says:

“The SURGE program gave our startup the jolt it needed. We had been tinkering with the FuelMiner business idea for a couple of years, but we were uncertain on how to make it happen. Within the first week of the program, we had access to this incredible network of mentors, potential investors and customers.”
