This World Water Week Help Charity: Water Bring Clean Water To Africa

Last updated on by

Do you know there are a billion people on the planet who don’t have access to clean water? This is the main driving force behind Charity: water’s mission.

Most of us have never really been thirsty. We’ve never had to leave our houses and walk 5 miles to fetch water. We simply turn on the tap, and water comes out. Clean. Yet there are a billion people on the planet who don’t have clean water.

Charity Water invites you to put yourself in their shoes.

Follow them on their daily journey. Carry 80 pounds of water in yellow fuel cans. Dig with their children in sand for water. Line up at a well and wait 8 hours for a turn.

Charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Charity: water does not devise grand schemes or projects. They help plan features like freshwater wells, rainwater catchments and sand filters.

Why water? A clean water project nearby means more than safe drinking water to women and children in developing nations; better health and sanitation; it means time, freedom and incentive to change communities.

Charity: water is a remarkable organization with a remarkable story. The story of its founder Scott Harrison is inspiring. He turned his materialistic New-Yorker life-style from “spiritual bankruptcy” to one with great meaning and real happiness by helping others in need. This attitude is reflective in the workings of the organization, one of the most transparent I have seen. With Charity: water 100% of your donation goes directly to the field with another group of dedicated donors funding operating costs. Another great initiative from Charity: water is a way to follow-up on your donations, details of which are available on all their projects worldwide. You can see them via google maps and a tracking system that shows how every dollar is spent on clean water projects. For about $20 a person, they help millions. In almost five years, charity: water has raised $40 million and funded more than 4,000 water projects.

Now for their 5th year, Charity: water just unveiled their September “birthday” campaign to purchase drilling rig equipment, a $1.2 million dollar cost, that will help bring clean water to parts of Ethiopia, helping thousands of people each year.

Can we all do a little something for people who need our help? If 9-year-old Rachel can make such a huge difference, we most definitely can try! Get involved with Charity: water’s efforts today!
